All women battling breast cancer deserve to feel empowered.

More Than a Cure, or MTAC, is a non-profit organization committed to empowering

underprivileged and underserved women fighting breast cancer. We believe that every woman deserves access to high-quality care and support, regardless of their financial situation.

Our mission is to provide critical financial assistance, services, and a supportive community that help women survive treatment with confidence, hope and dignity .

Join us in this journey to make a difference in the lives of women who need it most. Together, we can help all women face breast cancer with the confidence, hope, and dignity they deserve.

Our Impact
We are proud to share the impact that MTAC has had on our community.

Our Story

More than a Cure is run by a group of passionate women dedicated to helping vulnerable individuals battling breast cancer.  In April 2022, MTAC co-founder Dr. Tamara Gafoor faced a life-changing breast cancer diagnosis. Despite the lengthy treatment that ensued, Dr. Gafoor was empowered by  the incredible support of her husband, family, friends and colleagues. At the same time, her experience highlighted the devastating challenges that women without adequate resources face when fighting breast cancer.

Dr. Gafoor's cancer journey, fought alongside two friends and fellow cancer survivors, made it clear that more needed to be done to fill the void in resources and care available to vulnerable, financially insecure women battling breast cancer. With this mission in mind, More Than A Cure was born.

DR. TAMARA GAFOOR

FOUNDER & CEO

Dr. Tamara Gafoor is a Pediatric Emergency Physician at the Montreal Children’s Hospital and an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at McGill University. Dr. Gafoor was born and raised in Montreal, where she completed her pre-medical studies and graduated with honors from Medicine at McGill University.

Tammy, as she prefers to be called, then pursued her residency in Pediatrics followed by a fellowship in Pediatric Emergency Medicine. She is the Director of the Pediatric Advanced Life Support Resuscitation Program for the McGill University Health Center and its affiliated hospitals and is also an Assistant Director for the Montreal Children’s Hospital Disaster Planning Program. She has presented at numerous conferences both locally and nationally, and has worked tirelessly to advocate and improve the quality of care provided to children across Canada.

Tammy is a recent breast cancer survivor. Emboldened by the incredible care she received, and the love and support of her amazing husband, family, friends, and colleagues, her journey inspired her to co-found, More Than a Cure.

Through this foundation, Dr. Gafoor continues to positively influence the world around her. She truly embodies the words of Mahatma Ghandi “be the change you wish to see in the world.” In her down time, she enjoys travelling the world with her husband and spending time with and creating memories with family and friends.
